Training! Ugh, I both like it and hate it.
A few weeks ago, a couple of people that I work with got different jobs in the plant. Good luck to them, but what it means to me is that I have to train their replacements. The first two people we got as replacements lasted less than a week on the job. One couldn't handle the stress and the other didn't want the responsibility. (stress? responsibility? Heck, I do this job so it can't be that bad!) At least they decided to drop the job right away so I didn't have to waste more time training them on a job they weren't going to do anyway.
Two weeks later, after running shorthanded all that time, we got our current two. I'm impressed; they've made it through a whole week without deciding they didn't want the job after all.
As I said, I both like and hate training. I really don't like having to try to teach someone everything that its taken me the last seven years to learn, especially not when they have 30 days to get the basics of it down pat. On the other hand, I do enjoy teaching people new things and even sometimes re-discovering things that I had forgotten, while I'm teaching.
Ah well, our new, new people seem to be catching on really well, and hopefully they'll stick around long enough that I won't have to train anyone for a very long time.
